“Speed Week” Ticket Blitz – August 6-12

Fresh off the four-day I90/94 Challenge traffic ticket blitz, New York State Troopers are beginning yet another ticket blitz. This one, dubbed “Summer Speed Week,” is set to coincide with this weekend’s NASCAR race at Watkins Glen International Raceway.

According to the New York State Police: “In an effort to reduce speed related crashes and improve safe travel for drivers and passengers on New York roads, the New York State Police will conduct a week-long enforcement initiative targeting speeding and aggressive drivers across the state.”

Police Superintendent D’Amico noted, “While fans enjoy the racing at Watkins Glen, that is where the speed should stay – on the racetrack.”

Be alert! Additional unmarked patrol vehicles will be out in full force!

New York State Troopers will be pulling over a lot of vehicles during the “Speed Week” crackdown.

Likewise, troopers will be looking out for distracted drivers, passengers who are not properly buckled, those driving while intoxicated (DWI), and drivers violating the Move Over Law.

A Speed Week Ticket Blitz was held last August as well. During that campaign, NY troopers issued nearly 25,000 traffic tickets. More than 9,000 of those were for speeding.

More recently, April 17-24 was also dubbed a “Speed Week” with over 24,000 tickets issued.

Aside from monitoring your speed, be careful with cell phone and electronic device usage too. If an officer sees you holding an electronic device, he can ticket you for unlawful use of an electronic device or cell phone use while driving.

Summer Speed Week is set to run from Wednesday, August 6 through Tuesday, August 12.

Allow me to translate: “In an effort to increase revenue…”
